Sip Happens: Finding the Fun in Hydration
“Once during Prohibition, I was forced to live for days on nothing but food and water.”
– C. Fields
I’ll admit it: I like water. I’ll usually reach for a cold glass over soda or juice. But liking water doesn’t mean it never gets boring for me. And if you already struggle to drink enough, plain old boring water can be the deal breaker.
The reality is that hydration isn’t optional. Our bodies rely on it for energy, digestion, skin health, and even mood. But just knowing that doesn’t get the hydration job done. Some days it feels like keeping up with water intake could be a full-time job. That’s why I’ve learned to make it enjoyable instead of another box to check.
Here are a few of my favorite ways to keep hydration from feeling like a chore:
Infuse Your Water with Fruit
Think spa vibes without the big bill. Toss strawberries, oranges, cucumbers, or pineapple into a pitcher of ice water and refill throughout the day. At night, save the fruit for a morning smoothie. Simple, refreshing, and a little treat for yourself.
Sparkling Water for the Win
When plain water isn’t cutting it, bubbles help. I rotate between Bubly, La Croix, and Hint Sparkling. Adding a splash of Skinny Syrup gives it a fun twist. It may not be soda, but it’s a lot more exciting than another flat glass of water.
Freeze Your Fruit
Frozen grapes, berries, mango, and pineapple are hydrating snacks that double as smoothie boosters OR ice cubes. My favorite is blending frozen pineapple with almond or coconut milk for a quick DIY Dole Whip. Hydration plus dessert? Yes, please.
Got Lemons? Make Lemon (or Lime)-ade
A squeeze of lemon or lime juice, cold water, and a sugar substitute can be surprisingly refreshing. Blend in berries for a twist. Strawberry limeade is my go-to thanks to my daughter—it’s simple and bright.
Water Toks
TikTok has made water its own trend. The mixes can get wild, but some are genuinely fun. Cotton candy water and sugar cookie water are my personal favorites. They make sipping feel more like a treat and work great for an afternoon pick-me-up, especially if that’s when you usually reach for a soda.
When Sip Comes to Shove
The point isn’t to overthink every ounce. Hydration can be fun, flexible, and personal. Some days it’s spa-style fruit water. Other days it’s sparkling bubbles or even a playful water tok. What matters is showing up for yourself and finding ways that keep you sipping.
Finding the fun in hydration is what keeps me consistent. And consistency is what really makes the difference.
Food for thought…
Hydration doesn’t have to look one way. What keeps you sipping might be spa water, sparkling bubbles, frozen fruit, or one of those fun water toks. Or maybe you already have your own favorite hydrating hack. The point is to make it something you’ll enjoy enough to keep going.
Happy hydrating!
